The bob version

I remember, at bedtime

my mom used to

sing me to sleep with a

rendition of “Moon River”

on her guitar.

***

But I don’t think

my mom knew anything

of the Mancini version.

She only knew

the “Bob” version.

***

She’d sing,

“Moon Ri-ver, wider than a Bob

Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob

Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob

Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob …

***

… Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob

Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob

Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob …”

***

… Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob

Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob

Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob …”

***

… Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob

Bob Bob Bobba Bob Bob Bob

Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob Bob …”

***

And, eventually,

the song would

weave its magic spell,

and I would fall asleep.

***

And there I would

dream a little dream,

of floating down

a lazy ole Bob-river, on a

handmade Bob-raft

with a couple of guys

named, Bob.
