Do I detect an empty plate and a magnifying glass in hand. An unusual occurrence, yet one I have a certain empathy with.

I know these things. My great, great, great (possibly more greats) grandmother by the name of Eliza Mean (last recorded account of 1789 – true by the way) was of mystical gypsy stock. She was, I understand, never without a magnifying glass. Legend has it she was short sighted, mind.

It is true, I enjoy picking fruit come autumn, and frequently feel compelled to sell a nag here, there and wherever, nonetheless in the manner of Chaplin, I am yet to sire my 8th child at 73 years of age. Importantly, Eliza could neither read nor write. Why then, did she always have about her person, a magnifying glass? That Sir is the key to my very being.
