You’ve got me thinking. If Edison made cameras for cranks, why not a bespoke camera for the relatively normal?

True enough.
When charading, I always mime cranking backwards in a futile attempt to turn back time.
A noble effort to be sure, but in the end it’s just best to see charades thru to the end.

Quite true, I believe.
I recently watched Charade, which stars Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. Although most of this movie was apparently filmed using the Edison crank camera, you’d never know it. The Technicolor is top notch. When not needed to appear in a scene, I think Walter Matthau, James Coburn, and George Kennedy took their turn at the crank.
I think by the 1950s they had replaced the crank with a hamster wheel
How interesting. I never realized that’s what that was all about in charades. I guess I had some vague notion it was for an old camera, but now it becomes clear!
