It was long thought
that adventure was
the spice of toast.
But that was in the
days before the
discovery of cinnamon.

A chicken once said to me,
“George,” it said.
“Life is a joke, and
the punchline is
to get to the other side.”

I nodded and considered
its words.
But the chicken
was not finished.
***
“You will live to see the age of
thirty-nine.” said the chicken.
“But not a day more!”
***
(He was wrong about that second part.
— And thank heavens — But what of the first?)

Lol! Getting to the other side is inevitable.
Thanks, Sadje!
You’re welcome
St. Peter: “Okay, you will be admitted to heaven, but you did not live out your life without sin. So please join the punchline. After you’ve been beaten to a pulp, I’ll open the pearly gates for you and give you a cheap angel pin as a souvenir.”
George: “OMG, this can’t be true!”
St. Peter: “It isn’t. I was joking.”
St. Peter gets to heaven only to find he has to work. Thanks, David.
That chicken was a deep thinker, even for a chicken. I wonder: If all things are plausible, can anything be true? And if life is a joke, who is the butt? And who is the andd and who is the itt? I wonder if that bird saw 39.
I don’t know how long the chicken lived. We weren’t that close. Thanks, E Sum
Did you eat that chicken? :)
Of course not. Nobody eats a talking chicken. Thanks, Nancy!
Predicting a life span by a chicken is like doing brain surgery with a spoon. Are the results satisfactory? Good one, George.
The chicken wasn’t all wrong. He was right about the Mets. Thanks, John.
:D :D :D
It really depends on which side your bread is buttered. A spoonful of sugar can be two different things depending on geography. The spice of life can get you 5-10 in Utah and a sunburn in Spain. We really never know
Hah! Well done, old chap. And thanks.

Wonderful! Thanks, Geoff. It was a great looking salad. I asked for more blue cheese crumbles and the salad-guy looked both ways like, “OK, but i may lose my job for this”. I went back to my chair with extra blue cheese crumbles, but each bite tasted of worry.
I think there is a parallel universe where both of us are big time celebrities. If I can find it, I will send you directions.
Lovely to see a post from Trefology after a return from hectic mini vacation. Thanks for spicing up my day!
That’s why I’m here! Thanks, Janny
I was the 19th person in the Hawaiian Punch line. I thought I was going to get a nice drink. Instead this Hawaiian guy K.O.’d me. I saw the guy in front of me stagger away. But when he said, “They spiked the punch!,” I thought he was joking.
Thanks, D!
